Apex Trader Funding

Best fit in this comparison

Review Apex Trader Funding’s exact program costs, drawdown rules, restrictions, and payout eligibility in the comparison below.

Neither firm is a universal winner. This is document-based research, not first-hand account, support, trading, or payout testing.

Topstep and Apex Trader Funding both sell futures evaluations, but their current programs should not be compared from an old price table. The practical decision is how each firm’s billing clock, loss floor, funded stage, and payout cycle fit your trading process.

Topstep vs Apex at a glance

Decision pointTopstepApex Trader Funding EOD
Evaluation billingMonthly subscription that rebills every 30 days until the account passes or the trader cancelsOne-time evaluation fee with 30 consecutive calendar days of access

These are program rules, not a score. A shorter pass path can still be a poor fit if the drawdown method or payout buffer conflicts with how you trade.

How Topstep and Apex evaluations differ

Topstep describes the Trading Combine subscription as a monthly plan that rebills every 30 days. There is no fixed deadline to pass. The subscription ends when that Combine passes or when the trader cancels it. Other active Combines continue to rebill separately.

Apex describes its current Evaluation access as a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Access lasts 30 consecutive calendar days, including weekends and holidays. A failed or expired Evaluation cannot be reset or extended, so another attempt requires another purchase.

That creates a clean planning difference. Topstep keeps the same attempt open behind a recurring billing clock. Apex gives the current Evaluation a fixed 30-day window with no recurring charge and no reset. Compare total expected attempts rather than a sale price shown on one checkout visit.

Both firms can change checkout terms. Confirm the selected account size, product type, tax, activation cost, and any promotion in the live checkout before paying.

How Topstep and Apex drawdown rules differ

Topstep says its Maximum Loss Limit rises with the end-of-day balance, never moves down, and locks at the starting balance. The existing floor is monitored during the session with realized and unrealized P/L, so end-of-day describes when the floor moves, not when the floor is enforced.

The Apex EOD Evaluation has no intraday trailing drawdown. Apex calculates the EOD threshold after market close from the EOD balance, then enforces that floor during the following session. Touching the threshold fails the Evaluation.

Do not read this as a firm-wide Apex rule. Apex also sells Intraday Trailing Drawdown Evaluations. Choose the product first, then read the matching Evaluation and Performance Account documents. The word Apex by itself is not enough scope for a drawdown claim.

For either firm, record three numbers before trading: the current account value, the current loss floor, and the remaining distance between them. The account label is buying power, not the amount available to lose. The BestProps drawdown guide explains the difference between a floor’s update time and its enforcement time.

How Topstep and Apex funded stages differ

Topstep’s Trading Combine and Express Funded Account are simulated stages. Topstep says a trader may later be selected by its Risk Team for a Live Funded Account that uses firm capital. The simulated XFA can still produce eligible payouts, but it should not be described as a live brokerage account.

Apex describes the EOD Performance Account as a Simulated Funded account. It follows the EOD drawdown structure from the corresponding Evaluation and uses its own payout requirements.

This distinction matters when comparing firms. A payout from a simulated funded stage is a contractual reward under the firm’s rules. It is not proof that the trader controlled the account label as live capital. Read the current agreement and dashboard labels for the stage you actually receive.

How Topstep and Apex payouts differ

Topstep offers two XFA payout paths in its Express Funded Account rules. Standard requires five non-consecutive winning days with at least $150 net P/L. After the first payout, the account must also be profitable since the prior payout. Consistency requires at least three trading days with one trade per day and a largest winning day no greater than 40% of total net profit.

Topstep’s current payout policy states a 90/10 split. It also documents a first-$10,000 lifetime-profit exception for eligible traders who joined the new dashboard before January 12, 2026. The path, account size, balance, and current policy determine the amount available for a request.

Apex’s EOD payout policy requires five qualifying trading days. The minimum profit needed for a day to qualify varies by account size. No single profitable day may represent 50% or more of total profit since the last approved payout. The policy says approved EOD PA payouts use a 100% split.

Payout eligibility is not the same as approval, transfer, or receipt. Keep the post-request balance above the active floor and verify the payment method timeline separately. The BestProps Topstep payout guide breaks those checkpoints apart.

Which futures prop firm fits your priorities

Topstep may fit a trader who prefers an open-ended evaluation window, accepts a monthly billing clock, and wants a documented path from simulated evaluation to XFA and possible live selection.

Apex EOD may fit a trader who prefers a one-time 30-day Evaluation, wants an end-of-day threshold instead of intraday trailing, and can work with the EOD PA qualifying-day and consistency rules.

Neither description proves that one firm is safer, easier, or more profitable. Before buying, check this list against the exact product in the dashboard:

  • Is the charge recurring or one-time?
  • When does the Evaluation expire or rebill?
  • Does the floor trail intraday or update after the close?
  • What event pauses trading, fails the Evaluation, or closes the funded stage?
  • Is the funded stage simulated or live?
  • Which days count toward the next payout?
  • What balance and consistency conditions apply after a request?
  • Which agreement controls if a marketing page and dashboard differ?

Topstep vs Apex questions

Is Topstep cheaper than Apex Trader Funding?

There is no durable answer without an account size, product, number of attempts, activation choice, and current checkout. Topstep’s current core Evaluation is a monthly subscription. Apex’s current Evaluation is a one-time purchase with 30 days of access. Compare total expected cost under both billing models and ignore a temporary discount when testing the underlying fit.

Does Apex use intraday or end-of-day drawdown?

Apex currently offers both product types. This comparison uses the EOD Evaluation and EOD Performance Account. Select the official document that matches the product name in your dashboard.

Are Topstep and Apex funded accounts live?

Topstep’s XFA and Apex’s EOD PA are simulated funded stages. Topstep separately describes a Risk Team path to a Live Funded Account. Do not infer live capital from the account label or payout eligibility alone.

Which firm offers faster payouts?

The published rules describe eligibility cycles, review, and payment methods, but they do not prove when a specific trader will receive funds. Compare request eligibility, internal approval, transfer, and bank receipt as separate checkpoints.

Which firm is better for a new futures trader?

The better fit depends on the billing clock and loss rule you can follow without relying on a promotion. Write down the active floor, reset or expiry terms, funded-stage status, and first payout gate before making the comparison.
